New Year’s resolutions are when you wait until January 1st to begin the whole “new year, new me” trend. This can set unrealistic goals and expectations for yourself to be more complicated than you initially thought. However, by setting realistic resolutions, making a practical change allows you to feel optimistic about your choices and progress toward your goals.

Here are some ideas on making progress toward a New Years’ resolution that you can continue for 2021.

Find a diet plan you can stick to

Of course, improving your diet is one of the most sought after New Year’s resolution we hear about every January. People try many different kinds of diets they read about online or paid hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. It’s easier when someone else tracks your diet progress, but you have the absolute power to make a change yourself. Try small changes in your eating habits, and you’ll see how easy it is. If portion control is an issue, use smaller plates when you eat to ensure you’re not overeating. Or if the kinds of food are a problem, give yourself weekdays to eat healthy and weekends for cheat meals. Small changes in your daily routine like not eating after 8 PM are changes you can make that won’t be too hard for your everyday lifestyle. No matter how to choose to change your habits, you can find healthy habits to switch your meals. Turn chips into vegetables, or turn dessert into fruit and nuts. There are many ways to make your new diet yummy to help you feel confident in your new resolution.

Create an exercise routine you can enjoy

Exercising can be challenging, and with gyms still closed for the foreseeable future, many of us have had to get creative to work out. Check out your local stores to find home workout accessories that you can use in your spare time. Find new hiking routes around your home to visit on your days off or pick up an athletic hobby. Thinking you have to wake up at 5 AM every day of the week will get tiring quickly. Setting a standard of three days of weekly exercise will make your goals more reachable and motivate you to add to that in time.

Get to those home improvement projects you’ve been working on

Have you been waiting all year to unclog that drain or to change those window wipers? Make a list of all of those tasks you’ve been waiting to do. And on your days off, commit to doing at least one of them. Having a visualization of the things you’ve wanted to fix or build puts it into a perspective that encourages you to get it done. Check out the YoutTube channels under HomeEdit for videos on how to do quick home projects independently. Or check out the YouTube channel Dan Pattison for how to fix your home essentials.

Make a change in your career

Working in 2020 has been different from any other year. Many people have transitioned to working from home, and some people aren’t working at all. So while you prepare for your next move, there’s a lot to do! Go online and get your resume and resume created when you find that job you’re interested in. After completing your resume and cover letter, get them checked! Ask friends and family who can help, or go online for professional help. Find a new career path you’ll always be passionate about, or start something new. If you’ve ever thought about starting your own business, How to Start an LLC is a great way to get started. If you have an idea, now is the time to make your dreams come true.

Search for a new hobby

Many of us have had to find hobbies to get through the year, which’s not a bad thing! Try a mental hobby like reading new books or puzzles to spend your days off. Or get active and find a hobby in outdoor sports like tennis, golf, or even hiking. It’s a great way to enjoy the fresh air and social distance while working out. Ask friends and family about their hobbies, and many you can find a common interest to encourage your new hobbies.
